Avoiding the Plateau

Considering working from home but worried about hitting that moment where you have “sold” to all your family and friends and can’t even think of another person to contact?!

In the beginning, building my essential oil business was rather simple. I was passionate about Young Living products and others noticed the positive changes we were making in our family and wanted to join in. Often in direct sales or personal consulting businesses, after you reach the initial wave of people you know, your business begins to plateau. This is where I am thankful that I learned rather quickly it couldn’t just be me trying to teach others about essential oils. If I wanted our success to continue, I had to make it about helping others reach who they knew, and then helping them reach who they knew… and so the word continued to spread.

Now that I have over 700 people in my organization, it can be difficult to keep up with everyone. We have had great leaders that taught us to make your system DUPLICATABLE- so it is simple to teach others to do what you do. If you make sharing oils complex, very few will do it. But, anyone can grab a product, pamphlet, or product guide and tell their friend why they love oils. And not only do I think you have a moral obligation to help someone if you know what could be a benefit to them, but I have also found great success in this method- “Love it? Share it!”

In addition, keeping up with what’s in demand and new in your field helps keep others on board and draw in new interests to avoid that leveling out in your business growth. Below are a handful of ways you may find helpful in bettering yourself and your business!

  1. Read a book (check out my list of resources)

  2. Attend a class (conferences, workshop, online)

    1. Corporate Events

    2. Local Michigan Events

  3. Follow a blog

  4. Watch a video on YouTube or Vimeo

  5. Listen to an audio

  6. Join a conference call

  7. Host a class (get with your leaders that can teach in home or online)

  8. Share with a family member, friend, or stranger!

  9. Set a goal- WRITE IT DOWN

  10. Follow leaders (and me @oilingmom) on social media- Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Periscope

And of course, it is always a great idea to connect with someone who has walked the road ahead of you. I would love to hear from you! Fill out my Contact Form.

About Chaunie

Hi, I'm Chaunie and I'm glad you're here! I admit this blog is a bit rusty, as most circa 2010-blogs are, but like us elder millennial moms ourselves, I figure it can still get the job done, am I right? So here's the deal: I'm a mom of five kids, teen to toddler, I've been a writer for about 10 years, mostly penning health articles in exchange for money to pay my bills, but after I was laid off, I decided it was now or never and I'm writing my first novel in a month. And I want you to be part of the process with me. So subscribe and get weekly emails with my latest juicy drafts. It's going to be fun. Read More…
