Tell us about yourself:

I love landscaping and working outside. I have a dream of one day having my own company and have made some attempts to achieve this but not all things go as planned.  I love to paint and am trying to get back into painting on a more regular basis.

What was your reaction to finding out you were pregnant?

Well, both of my  pregnancies were a surprise.  With my first pregnancy I was scared, I took a test by myself and when I saw the 2 little lines I shook and said, “Oh Sh*t”.    I found out  I was pregnant with my second child after going to the doctor  because I was experiencing pain during sex.  It ended up being a cyst but she told me to leave a urine sample, not because she thought I was pregnant but just to check something and if anything was wrong she would call.  My boyfriend was with me when I got the call and  I cried and he held me and we were both just stunned.

What baby gear do you recommend for new moms?

A bouncy seat is my go-to for my babies.  I used my facebook page to ask questions of other moms and see what they thought and then went from there with my research on various things.  I wouldn’t consider a baby book part of baby “gear” but I think it is a must have.  It helps you keep track of all the new things your baby will do and learn because you will forget when some things happens.  I love working on my baby books for my kids and I feel like one day when they are older they will appreciate the time I took to do this for them (and me too).

Describe your typical day:

Since I am on maternity leave currently, I wake up to nurse the baby between 6:00-7:00 am and then we’re up for an hour or two and in that time I will make coffee, eat breakfast, pump, and play with her.  After that she and I might go back to sleep for an hour or so, then I get up with my son to feed him breakfast.  Boyfriend gets ready and leaves for work.  Then its time to nurse again and play with my son or let him go outside to play with the neighbors kids.  Lunch time/nurse time.  School work with my son, then more time outside.  Figure out/cook dinner/nurse/wash dishes.  More play time, nurse, then showers and baths.  Maybe a little TV before bed, then story time/nurse time.  Boyfriend comes home we talk for a little then it is bed time around 11-midnight.

What surprised you the most about having a baby?

How much one little baby can change your world.  I look at things differently and react differently.  My thoughts are not about what I want or need, it is what do my children need.

Describe what being a mom means to you:

It means being the one person who can make a baby stop crying and the one to teach and raise these children.  Its means the world to have someone call me mom because that is the most important name I will ever have.

How do keep yourself sane as a mom?

I read a lot.  I read all sorts of books and it is my escape to a different world to forget about the bad day I had with my son or worry over the hospital bills.  I also enjoy the rare opportunity of just driving in my truck with the windows down and the radio up listening to the songs I can’t listen to with my children in the truck.

About Chaunie

Hi, I'm Chaunie and I'm glad you're here! I admit this blog is a bit rusty, as most circa 2010-blogs are, but like us elder millennial moms ourselves, I figure it can still get the job done, am I right? So here's the deal: I'm a mom of five kids, teen to toddler, I've been a writer for about 10 years, mostly penning health articles in exchange for money to pay my bills, but after I was laid off, I decided it was now or never and I'm writing my first novel in a month. And I want you to be part of the process with me. So subscribe and get weekly emails with my latest juicy drafts. It's going to be fun. Read More…
