I just love hearing about all of the ways that young moms are being supported–and Amy Ford of has taken the movement to a whole new level.
At age 19, Amy found herself pregnant and after passing out in the abortion clinic before her procedure, decided to continue her pregnancy. Today, Amy is the founder of Embrace Grace, a non-profit program that works to “to inspire and equip the church to love on single and pregnant girls.” Embrace Grace welcomes single, pregnant girls and showers them with love, baby gear and supplies, and support through their pregnancies.
Both Amy and her program are just beautiful.
The stories that have come out of the program are incredible–everything from a young girl pregnant by her pimp to story upon story of girls trapped in the cycle of abuse and drugs–but they all have thing in common: triumph and hope from women who have refused to become statistics. Woman after woman in Amy’s book and her program have grown to be tremendous mothers and are continuing to pave the way for more young mothers to choose courage in the face of an unplanned pregnancy.
I really think Amy has hit the nail on the head with her program–so many time people in religions and faith-based organizations focus on the pro-life movement, but forget the reality of what abortion is about. They may not necessarily remember the woman behind the shamed baby bump and in all honesty, having been the shamed (religious) woman with the baby bump, it’s not an easy place to be! There is so much more to the picture and I know Amy gets that because she’s been there.
So I love what Amy is doing. She is really and truly living her mission of supporting young women facing unplanned pregnancies and encouraging them with real hope that they can be good mothers. It’s so inspiring to see the difference she is making.
And now, you can read about some of the incredible stories that have come out of the Embrace Grace program with Amy’s book, “A Bump in Life.”
And yes, ok, I will admit that I am a little jealous of Amy’s clever title, but what can I say? She’s doing amazing things and I’m proud to have had the chance to read her book and share it with you all! Pick it up on Amazon here and be sure to leave a review!
Keep up the great work, Amy!
